:: hinah collaborations
In February 2009 overseas friends and analog photographers Christy Romanick from Boston and Laurent Orseau from Paris began a slow conversation speaking only through their art. Please enjoy their continuing dialogue...
One-(Week/Month) Stand is a sort of a micro-podcast initiated by Anne-Lise Remacle, Nathalie Papillon, Thibaut Geib, Pascal Vermeulen and Laurent Orseau: every week, The OWS team choose three songs and invite a friend to pick a fourth one, every month, They choose a word/topic and pick twelve songs.
hinah has always liked to combine music and graphic universes (photography, drawing, painting, collages...). In 2006, we introduce a new concept in our website: a hinah calendar. It features twelve photographs by Laurent Orseau, one for each month, and songs written by artists in the hinah sphere and inspired by the related pictures.
Music by Dave DeCastro, Alex Gwinnett, LunDi, Melmac, The Potomac Accord
The "dolls" project is the result of a collaboration between three persons: aureza wrote the words, tiivi played the music, and Laurent Orseau took the pictures. This project was born at the Braderie de Lille in 2002 when in one of the first stalls that Laurent was walking by, he came across a naked doll sitting on an armchair with her legs wide open. Most of the pictures that he took on that day revolved around the theme of these dolls shamelessly displayed to passers-by. Later on, as he intended to take part in the "Image Latente" project, Laurent offered aureza to write a text based on a selection of seven pictures. She did so brilliantly, and eventually, tiivi added some sound to make the whole thing even more thrilling...
The label soundzfromnowhere suggested to release a compilation with a bunch of tracks selected within our first thirteen releases. Of course we said yes and here are their nine picks! As our fellow label managers share the same policy as hinah, this compilation will be sold at a very low price and on cd-r.
The "Acuarela Songs" compilation, which came out in the fall of 2001, was such a success that the Spanish label Acuarela Discos has decided to do it again and have a second volume. And of course we couldn't leave them alone! So we've chosen ten bands: some French bands -- Naïm Amor, Don Nino, Guimo, Man, and Natural Snow Buildings --, an Englishman -- James William Hindle --, and Americans -- The Potomac Accord, Transmissionary Six, and Windsor For The Derby.
"Acuarela Songs" is a joint venture between hinah and the Spanish label Acuarela Discos, which releases this double compilation. The idea is for the word "acuarela" (or its English and French equivalents, "watercolor / watercolour" and "aquarelle") to be included somewhere in the title, the spirit or the lyrics of the songs. Kind of like a homage, explicitly or implicitly to Acuarela Discos, which has been going on for 7 years now.
